Transplant-a-go-go

Great news!! We have a perfect 10/10 bone marrow donor for CarGuy!! The donor is international so that means the cells will get couriered to Denver and CarGuy will have them infused within 72 hours of their collection. I’m hoping this international connection will not only give him the cooking DNA I am so hoping for but maybe he’ll start talking with a really cool accent too! (CarGuy thinks I’m a total crack up too so go ahead and laugh at my lame sense of humor -- besides...it's not all my doing...Hannah is the one who mentioned the accent and I thought it was really funny...but then again maybe that was because she said it in this really weird Russian/British/Irish/Unknown accent of her own making..ok, so maybe you had to be there...moving on...)

The donor has been given 3 dates to pick from – March 4, 6, or 9 – to make his donation and then CarGuy will need to go into the hospital 5 days before that for his pre-treatment conditioning which consists of high dose chemo and full body radiation. That would put us inpatient starting sometime between February 27th and March 3rd. We have to go to Denver early next week for our consent meeting and some last minute blood work and then the real fun begins!

So…everyone gather their slates and chalk because starting next week we will begin our Transplant 101 classes! I plan to walk everyone through the process as we go along and hopefully by the end you will all be ready to get your doctorates and begin your new careers! ;-)
